In the course of his usual wanking, today including some mancruching on the thuggish charms of Bill O'Reilly, Mike Thomas makes the ridiculous comment that
“Progressives should be dismayed that their most eloquent and sensible spokesman is a comedian…”
Come again?
- Alexa.com is a site that ranks website traffic…as such, it offers a good rough measure of who ACTUAL progressives turn to, at least for their online political content (dailyshow: 1662nd most visited site overall in the US; Huffington Post is #36). So, looking at the specifically politics-oriented rankings,
- at #2 we find the excellent Glenn Greenwald as the news magazine’s leading traffic-magnet;
- at #6 & #8 you find independent, celebrity-free communities engaged largely in grassroots communication (as the slogan has it, “this is what democracy looks like”);
- #19’s front page today has Glenn Greenwald, Larry Lessig, & Amy Goodman, and so on and so forth…
So yeah, count me among the many who’d point to Glenn Greenwald--as the no-brainer, obvious ferinstance here--looong before John Stewart ever came to mind.
And really & truly, check out from that same Alexa list, how it’s the McVeighite, neo-Bircher, ultra-right websites that dominate the online conservative traffic: ( NewsMax (#3), WorldNet(#4), InfoWars (#5), Free Republic (#7), Lew Rockwell (#12)).
Talk about something to be “dismayed” over!
